Right, with my Tau force pretty much complete with the exception of a handful of Devilfish and Hammerheads, I'm looking at starting a marine army. Still haven't decided on a chapter/legion yet but I know I want a mobile force, with some drop-pods cause they are awsome. To start off I'm considering getting the Assult on Black Reach starter set as it comes with a Dreadnought, a 10 man tac squad, 5 Termies and a Captain, as well as a similar sized Orc force, game markers templates ect and a mini rule book. Does anyone know if the models are proper spures and not just snap together ones like the last starter kit?
edit: never mind found some spure pics, they are snap fit but they are much more dynamic than the old starter set, which looked like crap.
So, any ideas for which chapter I should go for? I'm leaning toward a modernized Dusk Raiders force (Modern Gear/Support) with the paint job intact or A Blood Angels army, as their fluff is pretty cool, and Death Company squad + Drop-Pod = Pwnage.

I was going to but with the Codex now 2 Editions and 2/3 Space marine Codexs out of date I don't want to field them. As awsome as the fluff is.

You could just wait for a few months and wait till the SW dex comes out next year.

The SW codex is very good compared to the BT,BA codex as it tells you to use the Space marine codex which means you can use units and point costs from the new SM codex.
Black Reach is great I brought two of them for my SM army. They cost me £30 each and a normal SM dread costs £25, so for £5 more I got a tac squad, 5 terms, captain and orks which I sold on ebay.
Ok dont do dusk raiders unless you are going to do them properly. Also Dusk raiders (death Guard) arnt a mobile force they believe in tons of inf and just slowly wearing the enemy down, they dont use Drop pods or mass rhino attacks. In 2ed Death guard could not have any fast attack.
Blood Angels are cool but there codex is outdated but then again its free.

Well if the SW does say that then I guess I can make a workable army. If I can get my paws on one, out of print codexs FTL.

If I was you I would make a SW army but just using the new codex. Then when the SW codex comes out next year ( or later its coming out after DE, IG and maybe Necrons) you can add the special SW units . The one problem is that the codex is out of print but if you find it you can field Leman Russ tanks :)

Yep and Venrable Dreads as HQs XD. On a side note I found an old GW PC army list maker in the pre owned section of Gamestation, as it was 99p I picked it up to see what it was like. It's '05 so out of date but pretty nicley done, makes me wonder why they haven't done an updated version of it, the interface is really nice and the way it allows you to print out the list is really nice and clean, breaking down individual units into their component models and upgrades.

They have upgraded it sort of, GW gave the rights to it to army builder. Not sure how good it is or how much it costs just saw people talking about it on heresy online. Dont like the ven Dreads in the new SM codex to many points and you dont get tank hunting anymore. Much rather go with an iron clad.

I checked out that Army Builder software, very impressive, might have to consider buying it, it's very detailed. Plys being able to print detailed lists with al the relevant weapon and wargear rules/stats on there would be very very useful.

What is "The Forge"? The only thing google gave me was forgeworld related goodies.
Also I dropped into my "local" GW today, (20 miles away >.<) and they had some Forgeword models on dispaly. They had a Tau A-X-10 Tiger Shark, 2 Tau Baracudda and around 10 Tau Remoras, damn those models are awsome! So getting me some of 'em.

I found it, not half bad. I think the armybuilder interface is better but hell, free is free. I really need to get my arse in gear and get to painting my Tau.

I hate to say it but me too. I've been busy with a lot of other shit so I keep forgetting to paint my Tau. When I have free time I usually forget all about it and go do something else like watch some anime. Damn it.

My Nids are packed up in my wardrobe at the moment, as my mum was fed up of them taking up room. So i have no motivation to paint them any more as they aren't there in front of me.

I should be getting nids for christmas amoung other things.
Going to take them down the shop and start christmas painting sessions.
I also have a desktop in my room now, so it'll be easier to do some of that in the evenings.

yea I need to get started on my daemons loads, I have painted a Daemon prince and a bloodthirster but no normal troops. Anybody in london up for meeting in a shop to do some painting or gaming. Mainly talking to nemp and dark here.

I've finally goten back to my Tau. Started a second FW squad and made up an objective marker, a badly wounded Shas with his leg and his arm blown off next to a data container, rescue/capture objective. Took awhile to hack up the arms to get the positiong right but I think it came out nicley, I'll get some pics up later.

Put together a Pathfinder blister and a sniper team, I'm quite fond of both of these sets despite them being metal, I'm glad I got 3 sets of each before the put the price up. I also ended up being a dumb shit and leaving a large puddle of liquid superglue on a peice of card over night in my room. Really wasn't good for me health.

3rd post in a row I know but what the hell, these are supposed to be logs =P.
I picked up an old WD, 336 December 07 as I heard they played a 7500 Tau vs Imperim Apocalypse game. Little did I know that the game was played on the board that we played our massive game on! They also have rules for those massive railgun emplacments, they are much more powerful than the way we used them but it was Apoc, I'd post the rules for them here but I'm not sure on GWs stance on posting rules on the net that they haven't done themselves, (so you know all the standard GW models now have their statlines for show on GWs site), but PM me and I'll send you the rules.
In other news I orded a set of 100 magnets so from now on I can magnatize the equipment options for my army. 1mm diamater and 1mm thick, £10 with P&P, I'll be posting my experinces with them once they arrive.

Although magnets are a cool idea, since my interest lies purely in the playing of the game and not the construction, I'm too lazy to use them on my models.

Always though magnets was a cool idea too.. but i never really wanted to customise my weaponry so i didnt see much of a point in them.
MAN i need to start warhammer again.. been too focused on doing.. fuck all.
And i need to do work..

I am looking into Magnets for my IG as my heavy weapon teams come with enough weapons to make 3 of any type but only 3 tripods. So I will be looking into small magnets so I can swap them around also the same with my Tanks so I can just swap the turrets instead of having to buy more tanks.
So tell me how it goes diablo.

Yeah will do, I found out the ones I ordered are too weak for my crisis suits so I'l be looking at magnetizing my Firewarrors so I can swap rifles for carbines, at least until I get stronger magnets.
EDIT: 10 mins after I made this post the magnets dropped though the door, god these things are tiny. They are going to be one hell of a fidliy thing to work with. I've found a supplier for 3mmx1mm magnets which is what one guy at ATT uses for his XV8s. The company below is where I'm going to get my 3mmx1mm ones from.

Finished painting my first Sniper Drone Team, I spent more time on these guys, I felt that my Heavy Support stuff warrents more care than firewarriors (mainly as if I took this long to paint firewarriors I'd never finish), I love the drones themselves, one of my favorite models in the whole army, The Spotter was a bitch to paint, really akward pose for detail work. I'm going to paint the other two I have before I assemble them. The only critisim I have for the kit as a whole is that the spotter is not to scale. He's noticeblly larger than a standard line trooper.
I've also started painting my "retro-retrofitted turret" objective. Based on a D40 STYX Air-Defence System from Antenociti's Workshop, you can find their sci-fi stuff here. I've made it look like it's been retro-fitted by Tau engineers, replacing the gattling guns with burst cannons and adding targeting assemblies.
Here are some photos of the sniper team, not great I know but they give you an idea of what they look like.

I don't like the black 'dirt' look on them personally. I see what you're trying to do with that whole look but it's like giving Stormtroopers dirty outfits, they just look far cooler when they're nice and white. Still, nice job. :]
