Seems George and Muss have been playing the demo of this and i know Jamie likes the TW series as well - and i just finished installing it through steam so i'll be playing it today aswell.
So put down your opinions on it and all that.
I can't wait to start playing as it looks amazing from all the videos/reviews. Naval battles look incredibly realistic.

I am installing the game now. I found the demo fun the land battle was a bit to easy and boring but then I never did like the historical battles. The sea battle was great fun It did take me a while to work out what I was doing.
Cant wait for the Multiplayer campaign beta in a few weeks.
Based on the demo it looks like barely anything has changed since Shogun. I did the tutorial missions and then I went to do the land battle. I tried flanking around the left but this was taking so long that I started to get really bored and just quit the demo. I'm not in the mood for slow-paced battles for now since one battle can suck up a lot of time if both armies are large.

I have been playing though the campaign and it is quite fun. But the battles are a bit boring well not the sea ones but the land ones. All the units are very similar and most of the time its just two lines of men firing at each other and then charging. I know that is how battles where fought in the 1700's but it seems a bit basic.

FINALLY managed to install the game after steam completely fucked over alot of people that bought it online.
Anyway i've enjoyed every TW game ever made - what appeals to me is the RPG like aspect of building your own nation and then taking over the world >=]!
And i tried one naval battle this morning and although it seemed hard to control it looked ggreeeeeea.t

had a good navy battle today. I was moving my trade fleet down to Brazil to capture some trade points and was attacked by pirates. I only had trade ships and 3 sloops (12 cannons each) and was attacked by 2 40 gun pirate ships. I lost around 4 ships but I did manged to finally kill the pirate ships. I had to scrafice some of my ships. I sent one into board the enemy to hold it in place while my other ships just fired at it, I did kill my own ship but I manged to kill the enemies as well. I am in the process of getting the colines to join me but I need to beat the Indians. They arnt great fighters but there are so many of them.
Oh yea grapeshot is awesome !!

Good to see you're having fun i look forward to playing it more tonight when im back from japanese lessons. I'll update my campaign through here as well.
By the way who are you playing as Grim? I'm going to start as Britain.

Seems the game is getting rave reviews - it has a metacritic of 94 now. I'm getting pretty pumped to rip into it when i get back.
It was the singleplayer Risk-style campaign that I loved about Shogun, and I'm assuming they've kept that campaign format throughout the Total War series. The problem is the pace of actual battles is very slow, and although this is not a bad thing it's currently something I don't have the patience to sit through.
Like I said about the demo, on the land battle you have the option to flank your enemy's army from the left, but even while making your units run it takes ages to go all the way around. When I'm in the mood for something slow and realistic, this is great and I will probably re-install Shogun since that time period is a personal favourite of mine, but otherwise it just seems better to play RA3 or DOW to enjoy RTS without sucking up 40 minutes for one battle.

I am playing as the British. Next I will play as one of the mainland euro nations maybe prussia or something.
That battle was a historical one which normally takes a while. Most battles on the campaign map dont take that long.
Also if you are playing Dark Crusade I would recommended a mod call fire over kronus great mod adds a lot of new units and balance.
I'm trying to find my copy of Shogun: Total War but I can't seem to remember where I put it. Since it was an old PC game and I didn't have many of those back in the day, I think I threw it away along with all my other old useless ones. Hopefully I can find a cheap one online again, I loved Shogun.
