The release date for FF14 has been announced, September 22nd for the collectors edition, and September 30th for the standard. There's some cool stuff in the collectors version, and I'm likely to pick it up.

Theres also a benchmark on the FFV14 site, which shows off the graphics and will give you an idea of how well your system will run it. Mine came back in the

    [2000-2499] Slightly Low Performance
Capable of running the game, but may experience some slowdown. Adjust settings to improve performance.

band. Been needing to upgrade anyways.

Anyone else picking this up at launch?

I most likely won't be buying this as it's not really presenting anything new to the genre and looks likely to feature lots of grinding. With MMOs taking so much time to play I've decided to basically avoid them unless it's something different like Jumpgate Evolution or EVE Online, at which point I'll give it a spin and see if it's refreshing enough to stay active on. Thinking about playing EVE again, plus the fact that it's compatible on OS X is nice to have. Final Fantasy XIV looks pretty, but watching the combat was boring as hell so fuck it just for that one major issue, I would rather play Free Realms than grind on another Japanese MMO.

I like to try MMOs as the combat is often more fun when you are acully playing, and I like the idea of the "class" system in FF14. Also I'm a sucker for MMO collectors editions, especially when they have art books.
