So the Cash Converter I walk past on the way to college has a Gamecube in the window for £13, this tempts me. Having never played one, nor really seen any of it's exclusives I ask you; are there enough good games to warrent a pick up of this console? And what games are worth checking out?

There are enough games to justify purchasing a pre-owned GameCube for £13. I bought my GameCube for a bargain £30 way back in the day and although there are not many games worth playing on the console, I got more than I paid for with the console.
I'll list a few quick games from my personal library that are worth checking out. Metroid Prime is my personal favourite, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, Super Monkey Ball and Mario Kart: Double Dash are the notables in my collection. I would add Ikaruga if it wasn't for the fact you can download it on XBLA.

Sounds like some good games to check out then! I'll pick the 'cube up tommorow, and I'll have a gander at the games they have in there.

I suggest going with Metroid Prime first, but don't treat it as an FPS game. The game is more like a first-person adventure, and the atmosphere is fantastic whilst it's still visually decent even for today's standards. If I recall, it was in GameRankings' top ten of all time so I imagine you most likely won't be disappointed.

Theres a few non chain game stores in town that stock a lot of last gen games so I imagine I'll be able to find it quite easily, I have heard great things from the series. Am I correct in thinking the 'cube is a memory card console?

buy the remake of residetn evil 1!!!! its insantly good! if you havent played resident evil 1 on the playstation then i really suggest this game! the remake is as good if not even better then the first one. And the remake is the only scary resident evil game. and if you really like it you can re play it on the really hard diffucultys. the first one is "realistic mode" wich makes the item boxes in the game dosent connect to each other, that means if you put your shotgun in a box in the beginning of the game you must get it back THERE! also you die alot faster. and the hardest difficulty after that is invisible enemies, and tha game is as the diffculty says, all enemies ( i mean ALL) are invisible, the only time you see them is when they attck or when you hit em ( and a few spots were you can see their reflection from water on the ground. i have finnished the game on all difficulties so if you need just ask me and ill gladly help

If by chance you've never played MGS1 then pick up the remake of it, MGS:Twin Snakes.

Thanks for the recomendations guys, I'll keep my eyes peeled for 'em!

Yeah, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes is a good suggestion. The GameCube controller sucks on MGS compared to the PS1 pad but nothing's perfect. I also suggest Super Smash Bros. Melee like I said on Xbox Live.
The Cyborg Ninja from MGS1 is still badass...

Ahh the memories! Anyone have any tips for making the Gamecube put out a better image on modern TVs? It looks really really low res on my HDTV.

Quick update: I Just won Metroid Prime on eBay for £4.70, and my mate said I could have his old GC memory card so with any luck I won't have to trade those waters.

A few other excellent suggestions would be:
- Resident Evil 4
- SSX 3
- Viewtiful Joe
- Pikmin 2Especially Viewtiful Joe, I'm surprised I didn't remember it sooner but it's a fantastic game that I thoroughly enjoyed playing from start to finish. RE4 is also awesome if you've not played it yet, and I suggested SSX 3 / Pikmin 2 because they are exclusive to the GameCube and have many positive reviews, though I've never played them.

I enjoy the SSX games so I'll have a look at SSX 3 for sure. Resi Evil 4 was on my list already, as was Pikman, I've heard good things about both. Never heard of Viewtiful Joe but I'll keep my eyes peeled!

You need to play Viewtiful Joe, it's by the old Clover Studios who also created Okami.

no he needs Resident evil 1 remake!

I got sick of RE1 after the 96th remake.
The core gameplay didn't age very well either, I'll stuck to RE4. :]

That video was better in the original, where you just walked in and they were all slain. I got so scared

I was lucky to even find that on YouTube. It's hard finding videos for specific MGS scenes, weirdness.
