Right.. so technically speaking, about a month ago if i was to run a speed test on my pc.. it would've been about just under 2MB. Now that i've upgraded it, i ran the speed test earlier and it was just under 10MB. I'll also soon get my modem up in my room, so i no longer have to be wireless and can just direct the connection straight through. I havn't had any real time to test out how much faster it goes.. but while i was just browsing sites, i didn't notice any difference at all. Now, i think the reason might be just because my PC itself is fucked and runs really slow at the moment... but i'm looking to download some stuff to test out how much better my connection is now that i'm up by 8MBs more than i was.
At the very least... at least i'll no longer have any lag on XBL. So from now on, it's no longer my fault whenever there's a connection problem! My connections just as good as Mustafas! It's NO LONGER MY FAULT!!!!......
... It'll be JAMIES.

The amount of RAM you have can actually affect the speed pages display at. Also it depends on your web browser.
Congratulations on the upgraded connection though - I'm looking forward to my 50Mb fibre.

Yeah i think with the new PC i'll definitly stick with firefox..
i swear 50mb is the kind've shit only koreons (sp) have?!
not sure about the RAM thing.. well i mean i know your right but this pc i have at the moment has 4MB connection but only 1mb of Ram, and its displaying faster than my pc with 10mb connection and 2mb RAM. But i can guess its because this PC does not have a single program on it, its only ever been used to web browse so i guess it doesn't have all the shit on my other pc slowing it down. And its a direct connection, no wireless letting me down with failed signal strength.

Fat chance, my download speed is 18MB on average, I'm on 20MB. I'm also looking forward to my 50MB fibre-optic, you can NEVER have fast enough internet on this fucking planet. Anyway, you can be a back-up host for when I'm not online; with great internet comes great responsibility.

We recently got upgraded to 10 MB and it was showing 9.7 the other day but this is all I'm getting now
May have something to do with the server I picked.

The connection does usually vary and it's rare you'll ever get the exact amount they advertise. A technician from Virgin came over to look at my router once, and he told me that it's not uncommon for Virgin to actually limit your connection on purpose. He said if you do a speed test and your 10MB connection is showing up as only 4MB or whatever, call them up and tell them you just did a speed test and the speed is nowhere near what they advertised, they will usually "fix it up" for you on the spot. I'm too lazy to try, but if your internet is ever too slow give it a shot and see what happens.

Well they have their fair usage policies and everything as well.
Less programs = less RAM being used.
You'll find that Chrome is probably quicker than Firefox. Firefox isn't really that fast anymore.

Does chrome have all the fancy features firefox has though? Like correcting spelling errors and all that..

I've not tried it out that much to be honest with you, as I didn't like the interface that much. It was pretty damn fast, though.

Wow. And for some reason its saying i'm with Carphone Warehouse, even though we pay AOL for shitty internet. Oh well, changing to TalkTalk on the 5th, 8mb.

We are meant to have 20 mb from O2 but mine is coming up pretty slow may have to phone them and see. Would having 4 PC on and one of them streaming tv at the same time change the test ?

20Mb on ADSL is different to 20Mb on cable. Things like distances, contention and line quality come in to play.

Did the test again with my newer pc and it came up as around 8mb alot fast then my other pc. May have to check I dont have any virus or anything on that one. But I did the test a few times to make sure and the results jump around alot. I had a massive range from 1mb to 9mb no clue what is going on.

And i don't get the thing which made Nemphtis LOL :S...
It's either that i made a spelling mistake in that sentence, or it's that the spelling correction isn't actually a feature of firefox.

For those of us on cable connections with Virgin Media, it looks as if their 50Mb connection is going to launch on December 15th. I think we'll all need new modems to be able to handle the increase of data, but I can't wait.

Have you not seen their modems for the new 50MB? They actually look sexy, but the downside is that it only has one Ethernet port. I'll attach some pictures for everyone to see.

Yeah I have. Still costs money though.
Why would you want more than one ethernet port on a modem? You'd have a really shit local network without the various networking capabilities a router offers.

True, I have my router after all. More importantly, that thing looks too good for a modem. You could tell your friends it's a gaming console by Virgin just to see how they react.
