Let the Right One In is a Swedish horror film directed by Tomas Alfredson. It is based on the novel of the same name by John Ajvide Lindqvist, who also wrote the screenplay for the film. It tells the story of a bullied 12-year-old boy who develops a friendship with a vampire child in Blackeberg, a suburb of Stockholm, in the early 1980s. - Wikipedia

I just watched this, and I was so impressed that I went and ordered the book because apparently that has even more backstory about Eli and how she came to be a vampire. I recommend you guys check this film out, it's what Twilight should have been. Here's a link to the PirateBay torrent, so no excuses to not watch it now.

Well, it's £4.99 on Play if that's what floats your boat.

I thought this film was great, have not seen to many swedish films. I dont normally like vampire movies (dont know why) but I thought this movie was great and went into some of the untold lore.
I saw it was based on a book but never thought of picking it up. Would love to know if it is any good.

My book has been dispatched, it's like £3.99 on Amazon if you're interested in picking it up too. I'll let you know if it's any good when I get around to reading it, but what I do know is that it explains how Eli became a vampire and it also explains 'her' gender amongst god knows what else.

I'm a bit annoyed that I couldn't get the hardback version, it was priced at like £50 or something, and I hate it when the original book has a lovely cover and then because the film comes out they re-print the covers with the film poster or some stupid shit like that.

So has anyone else bothered to check it out yet?

Yeah I know about the American version, they bought the rights before the original even hit theatres. I do indeed like the film so much that I made it my avatar, it really appealed to me.

I just finished reading the book and it was a great read. Going to have to rewatch the film again now and see the differences.

I haven't started on my book yet, too much fucking manga lately. Glad you found it enjoyable, hopefully I too will like it at least as much as the movie. Anyone who has yet to see this film is fail, you fuckers watch junk all day and ignore a good movie when it's right in your face. :P

Oh yea the book really does not give you much backstory on eli at all. if you put it all together maybe a page at most. It sort of explains her gender but not really. Cant remember if the film gives the same details or not.

Damn, that's a little disappointing since I was looking forward to learning more about Eli.

Spoiler for Eli: (hover to see)
I do recall that Eli was adopted by a lord or something, and he is the one that made him a vampire. He was originally a boy, but the lord ordered his genitals be cut off when turning him into a vampire. Is that the only back-story we get, or was the person who told me this high on some crack?

Yep that is pretty much it, although it never say outright she was adopted or it was he who turned her it is hinted at.

I just rewatched the film and when reading the book I did not relize how much they had changed it.
I think I prefer the book's version of events, there are some things they changed in the film which did not need changing.

They got some footage of the Hollywood remake on IMDB. It's not looking too shabby but not digging the new guy playing the vampire. http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi1000278297/
