Well now we're within the month of release, it's time to kick off with this topic. As i know quite alot of us were fans of ME1, this is surely going to be a must buy for us all at the end of the month.

I'm not going to bother too much with information on the game, as you can go to any other game site to find out all the quick and relevant facts. Just as a quick highlight, the main thing being said is that it does address all of the problems people had with the first - the combat is alot more accessible and fun, all of the framerate/bug/ai issues have been almost completely fixed, and everything else has been vastly improved. The game is said to be twice the size in content/length, you'll have 10/9 squadmates this time around and the best news is that all of them can die . This is because the main plot of ME2 is joining forces with the hidden antagonists in the first game (Cerberus - a pro-human group trying to make the universe for humans only etc.) to go on a 'suicide' mission to save the galaxy from the main threat from the first game - the reapers. The main quest is basically recruiting all the characters, and then going into the final mission where it is possible that with the decisions you've made during the game, all of the characters including yourself can die. So you'll be re-playing it to try and get all the different endings. Some fail reviewer in OXM said he didn't like the main story (whilst giving the game 9.5/10 anyway) when it was later revealed that this was because he got the bad end where everyone in his team died. Fag.

And of course, the best thing coming out of Mass Effect 2 is the fact that you'll be able to import your character saves from Mass Effect 1 into the game - so you can play as the same character who completed the main story in ME1 and all your experiences in ME1 will be continously brought up in ME2. Infact the designers have actually said that two ME2 playthroughs might play out entirely different based on the choices that character you chose made in ME1. For a short explanation on how it works - basically whenever you complete the main story of ME1, a special 'end game save' is created in your hardrive, that isn't like a normal save. To see these end game saves, go to New Game in ME1 and choose 'select existing profile' which is what you would normally do to be able to re-play the game through with a character you completed it with already. All of the saves you can see from that screen are the saves you'll be able to import into ME2. So if you don't see that much.. time to get playing ME1 again before no.2 comes out.

Here's some tips if you decide to do so -
In ME2 your character will recieve a bonus if you imported him over with...
    Level 60 Experience
1million credits (this is recognised by an achievement)

And its been said that over 50 decisions you make in ME1 will be carried over and in some way effect the world in ME2. These can range from small decisions such as If you decided to be mean or kind to the annoying fan named Conrad Verner on the citadel, or the larger decisions such as who died, and if you decided to kill the Rachni Queen etc.

So yeah, that's about all i can think of the top of my head. Now i need to make a decision -
I want to get the Collectors Edition, but there are only three online sites that have it. GAME, gameplay and play.com. I'm not going to use play.com because i just flat out don't trust them - so i have to choose between GAME and gameplay. Whilst googling it appears they both have positive reviews from people for getting games to you early. And at the moment i'm swaying towards GAME because most of the forums i've been on seem to favour it. But i know a few people here use gameplay so what's your experience been like with them? How many times have you gotten the game early?

P.s the guy in the pic is 'The Illusive Man'. He's the leader of the organization 'Cerberus'.

As awesome as this sounds, I feel sorry for the completionists who have to have a list of all of the variables and possible outcomes of each butterfly-effect scenario so that they can see all of the content.

Oh wow I knew this game was coming out this year but did not know it was so soon. Thought it may be christmas. After being disappointed with some games I have just stopped following news on new games.
But its nice to know this comes out just as my exams are over. I did enjoy the first one but it had some massive flaws so I was glad I never paided for it and just borrowed it from a mate.
I hope in this one the guns actually change there apperance depending on what there are. Having all assault rifles look the same was pretty boring.
Just checked and there are a bunch of games coming out at the end of this month. I havent even finished ac2 yet. I finish they would sprend games out a bit.

Probably won't get ME2 as awesome as it sounds. I didn't really enjoy ME1, and I don't want to have to play through it so I know the story, and get the respective follow on actions in ME2.

Actually Grim, there are about 20 different style of weapons in this game.
Still the basic 4 of Machine gun, pistol, shotgun, sniper plus a new type called 'heavy weapon' which is like portable rocket launchers - but there are different types for each. Like in pistols there is a DE type pistol, normal one and machine gun type. And also the way you do equipment and armory etc has all been re-done. It's the first AAA of the year and i think this game is gonna be huge tbh. Everyone should get on board!

I'll pick this up at some point. Mass Effect was good fun so the sequel will be worth £40 for me, but not going to buy it until I complete one of the three titles I'm currently playing through.

    46 reviews averaged to 96/100.

The only games that have achieved better than that on Metacritic are Uncharted 2, GTAIV, Super Mario Galaxy and Bioshock is tied with it. Still early to suggest but this looks like Game of the Year in January folks.

I started my adventure yesterday. I loaded my last character up but I decided to edit his appearance and class, so I've moved from being a Soldier to a Sentinal this time around. Which class are you guys playing as? I wish we had spoiler tags like old times so we can actually discuss how far we are without ruining it for the others.

I think we can be slightly spoilerish without being too spoilerish in reference to how far we are in the game; using character codenames for example.

I havn't played the game as long as i usually do within the first 4 days of getting it, but on Thursday I loaded up my lvl 58 Renegade Adept from the last game and i have to say, he looks fucking badass. Seeing some of the shitty shepheards people have made on the forums, i love the simplicity of my shepheard and the overall Evil vibe he gives of. He kind've looks like a sith. And now that your character develops more 'scarring' if he is more renegade, he actually comes across as a real fucking pyscopath when you see him in the movie-like dialogue bits. He even has a red tint in his iris. At first i was a bit peeved of at not being able to launch loads of biotics in battle (now you can only use one at a time) but i soon realised that mapping powers to buttons can make the battles sooo much more fun and quick. You can just race through throwing force push everywhere and snapping peoples heads of with the pistol, it's really fun. Although i imagine it's a bit different if you're playing as a Sentinal, which will be my 3rd class to play through (next will be my Paragon Soldier from the last game.)

Anyway as for where i am in the story, i'm currently on Ilium. Of course i went to Omega first, recruiting the Scientist. Then i went back in and recruited Archangel (which was badass) and also the DLC character Zaeed. Then i did a few exploring of some planets and did the 'crash site' mission. Then i went to recruit Jack... then i went to recruit the Krogan... then it prompts you to do that mission with the Collectors and trying to save that colony. I was pretty much an ass to Ashley (my love from the first game) because i knew i was going to get it on with Miranda in this game (you get to see boobies if you do.)And yeah, then i put in the second disc and began the mission on Ilium. Overall i am liking the game alot so far ALTHOUGH i have yet to experience a really emotional mission where you actually have a serious choice to make. At the moment all of the choices lead to the same conclusion, and also most of my choices from the last game are coming back just via the text console or dialogue references etc - it hasn't actually changed the gameplay much. Although someone did mention that you have to re-play the game with a different character to realise how different the world will react to you. Anyway like i said, i'm still waiting for some of those emotional decisions that the first game had - like whether to [spoilers from the first game ahead) kill the Rachni queen, kill wrex, who to save on Virmire, etc - also including all the subquests like there was this really emotional mission in the first game where you could choose to save Corporal Toombs from commiting suicide and stuff. So yeah i hope this game is going to have some of those ME1 type decisions soon because at the moment it seems very linear.

I'm refusing to read anymore on this game untill I get round to it :P

    Might be a while!

Was hanging hard yesterday so spent the whole day playing this.
I have to say I am enjoying it alot even if half my game time is just reading the codex.
I remade my character as he looked odd and I choose Sentinal as my class. My character is not evil or good, my two bars are pretty much equal. I dont like being evil just for evil's sake. If I like I character I will help them if they are a dick I will be a dick back. Although sometimes its more fun to be evil like to that merc in the tower. Did anyone else punch the reporter in the citidal ?

So far I have recuited Archangel, Zaeed, the scientist, the Korgan, Jack and the assassin.

My main problem is I cant remember anything I did on ME1. I thought I killed the Rachini Queen but it turns out I didnt.

So far the missions have been great, I am still trying to find the best characters to use on missions. I normally take Archangel and Zaeed as I like both of them. The only character I find annoying is Jack and I dont find her that useful on missions. My fav is either Zaeed or the Scientist.

I tend to take Miranda on all of my missions. Not just because i want to bed her, but because i like her combination of warp and overload which are neccessary for taking down shields and barriers. Although i imagine that issue is fine for you grim as Sentinals have all that shit by themselves. But yeah i'm also struggling to decide who to take with her. It's a mash up between The Assasin and Archangel but i also do like Jack for her shockwave ability which i cant be bothered to advance on my own adept.

btw ME2 sold 2 milion units worldwide in it's first week; so it seems to be a commercial success (if that's the right term) as well as a review success.

Commercial success is the right term, but 'review success' isn't, you're better off saying it's 'critically acclaimed'. I currently take Jack and Grunt with me since I wanted a specialist in firearms and one for biotics.

I just read a topic in 4chan where some guy made a Shephard that looks exactly like Obama. I LOL'd at all the in-game screenshots with Obama talking to Quorians and shit. I might make an Obama in my next playthrough.

Now that we have a spoiler plugin, let's discuss the ending.

Which characters died in your ending during the assault on the Collector base? I remember Mordin, Legion and Grunt dying in mine for sure, can't recall if anyone else kicked the bucket. How about you guys?

I didn't loose anyone in the ending, I managed to get the right people doing the right things. Still, was close! Some of the fights were pretty tough. I did really enjoy the ending sequence though, very impressive and fun as hell.

I didn't know you could save everyone, although I suspected as much. I think I will try this in my second playthrough, will have to look up some guides to see how to keep them all alive. I was only focussing on making sure Tali was still alive, since she was my love interest.

i completed mass effect one earlier this month using a vanguard and enjoyed it ..now im on ME2 and im using an adept and i gotta say im pretty far now and using singularity/pull > warp for bread and butter is epic win and great crowd control when you have the last parts like unstable warp and stuff. i normally take grunt as a first choice hands down if your a biotic specialist you need a sponger tank lol..grunt + shotgun + fortification + concussive blast + frontline = I AM A KROGAN ROAR epic enemy distraction.. my second choice is someone that can actually be useful say if im fighting alot of mechs it would be miranda coz she has overload and thts usefull on the synthetic enemies and she has warp which is a really great skill tht prolly has the same effect/damage on anytype of enemy.

Spoiler for Mass Effect 2 Ending: (hover to see)
I am near enough to the end just getting a few sidequests and all my loyalties out of the way before i get legion and the iff. my friend kinda warned me about losing team members and even ship crew if im not careful with what im doing so im tryna make sure i go through the omega relay and come out in one piece with minimum casualties so this save can be imported to ME3. I also started a fresh new career aswell for my second playthrough i just wanted to try out a infiltrator with cloaking skills and it feels pretty cool and ill continue it after i complete the game one my imported career from ME1. This second playthrough will be a renegade path also. my first career was a paragon path lol

Just finished this game, thought it was a great game although the ending was not that hard, thought we could do more after we go through the omega rely.
I only lost one person and that was Legion who I did not care about. He died in both my ending playthrough in different ways so I must just be unlucky with him.

I thought he was the worst character, you only got him for the end bit.

I thought Legion was one of the most intresting characters. You learn more about him after the final mission, tis a shame you get him so late though.

Will have to see if I can make him live through the final mission. I still think Mordin is my fav character.
I swear there where some characters I never used unless it was there mission like The justica.
I did not get the Achivment for playing 5 missons from scanning planets. I did not know they had random side missons I thought scanning was only for resources, will have to find those missions.
