Nice haul. Did not get much for my birthday did hte rookie thing of telling them there was nothing I wanted so they didnt buy me anything. Was atleast hoping for some cash. Although birthdays dont really matter now as if there is anything I want in the year I have enough cash to just buy it anyway.
I saw Avatar the other day and thought it was shit.
Ok the cgi was good and the 3d effects where nice but that does not make it a good film. The story, characters, character deveploment plus cinematography and mise en scene where all dull and had been done before. It was just another genric sci-fi film with a lame message.
I give it a 2.5/5 with out the CGI it would be another bland Sci film nobody would remember.
I caught a interview with the some of the cast that said that this movie is an even bigger breakthough in film that when they added colour, not sure I believe that.
I will have to see what people do with cameron's new tech. As a show case for this new CGI it was good but as a film rubbish.Posted 2 years ago # | -
holy shit i cant belive you think avatar was rubbish, however its your opinion and you can think what ever you want. so now to the new shit, i bought killing floor recently and i gotta say that game is 10 times more fun then MW2. the music is one of the most addictive tracks in a game ever. the graphics are awsome and well they could add alittle more guns and stuff like that but still this game owns!

Nice haul, man. Your parents are obviously very successful people - congratulations to them.
Do you think that affects you in a way? I mean - do you appreciate the value of the money that you've got when you see people who can't afford to pay the bills in their small government-owned house, and that £4,000 could easily see them through the best part of half of a year? I'm just curious - as I was never in the wealthy parent situation, and wondered how your life is impacted by it.
I picked up Prototype, Tekken 6, Assassin's Creed 2, Mirror's Edge and Fable II again, which I have been playing on and off. I'm also off to LA in January to have some business meetings with Megadeth, Slash, Eddie Kramer and Tony Iommi, which is pretty epic. I've got lots of big things coming my way, which is great fun. I'm very busy though, and forever on the lookout for more work.

You should go and check out Compton while you're in LA, heard is full of nice people. ;)

Not very interesting but I bought two bottles of wine to warm me up tonight.
Got me a bottle of Rioja El Circulo (Spain) and Chemin des Papes, Cotes du Rhone (France) which is a great red I was lucky enough to discover in the shop last year when a bottle exploded and we decided to drink what was left of it.
Yeah Dan, I hear Compton is a great holiday destination. Be sure to drop by whilst you're in L.A. It's like Akihabara for Americans so you'd enjoy it.

Well grim tbh I expected that from you because you're a cynist (if that's a word). I bet you just wanted to not like the film, you probably didn't have any serious problems with it at all. I can tell by the fact that you said the cinematography was bad... Also Something not being original doesn't make it bad, pretty much everything today is copied from something else. Anyway, you are right that the story wasn't that great, probably 2.5 is fair, but to say that the cgi was only 'good' is just mind bogglingly prudish. I makes me wonder what quality of cinema screen you were watching.
And dan, thankfully I live in a generation of London adolescnts that couldn't give two fucks about social, political or philosophical
values. You take what life gives you and just fucking have a laugh is me and most of the people I knows motto for life. Yeah fair dos to me, I got a welathy dad who spent 15 years of his life slaving at an it desk job to get a respectable position in the lawfirm and provide well for my family; but then I can go hang around with my mate who's poor as fuck and his family come from huts in Africa. But do we care about that sort of thing? Fuck no. He'll go and try and make his own money, even if it's by robbing some other kid just like me. That's the way we live here. But long story short, to answer your query directly, yes I appreciate the value of money greatly as I live in a very poor area, and no it has no effect on me as a person whatsoever, despite what you may have probably already assumed. Oh and that's awesome about the LA thing. So are you making websites for them? Man, despite all of the context of this paragraph, it's amazing how many guys I know now ( now including you ) who dropped out of school, didn't have any wealthy stability as a kid, and yet are now on their way to making way more dough than me. Albeit one of those guys is chipmunk who was in the year above me in my school, and the other plays for arsenal reserves, but still. Perhaps then, the money makes me lazy to go and pursue my own riches? Although actually I did make alot of my own money in my short acting career. Well, it's interesting. I'm sure you'll mull it over ;-)Posted 2 years ago # | -
I didn't make an assumption to be honest with you - I was genuinely curious about how different, if at all, a wealthy upbringing was, to an upbringing like mine, where at times my Mother struggled to feed us both.
It's true though - people are brainwashed into believing that education is the only way to success. Realistically, education is just one of the ways to success. I have qualifications, but most of those came with the job I was working at the time.
Currently I'm managing a semi-famous guitarist, and launching a music festival and a guitar company with him - through him I'm meeting these various people because we need to discuss the festival, guitar company, and also an indy movie that he's planning to direct.
However, my goal is indeed to be a website developer to the music industry as it were - so I'm hoping to do some solid PR work when I'm out in LA and come back to a big stack of work. Saying that, I did just land a £7.5k government-funded website, so that put a smile on my face.

To be honest Michael, I think it's cool you got lots of shit and I look at the list and say "Dayum...", but it doesn't impress me too much because ultimately these things were bought for you, not bought by you with your own hard-earned cash.
However, I know you take your studies seriously, so I hope in the next decade you'll put what you've learned to good use and earn lots of £££ yourself. So, are you studying to do what your dad does or do you have a different career in mind?
Posted 2 years ago # | -
Funnilly enough, with my only real advantage at studying being that i can just memorise book facts pretty well - i would probably be suited to learning for the type of Job my dad does. But no, i wanted really to do something i enjoyed, so at the moment i'm studying English/History etc and next year at Uni i'll be doing Film Studies. Hopefully at The University of Warwick which is one of the top 5 unis in the UK, but if i fuck up my interview with them then it will probably be Sussex, which i hear is good anyway.
And yeah of course - believe it or not i don't put the shit up to show off, it's more for myself. When i get all the shit i'm like 'Wooah!' then i think to myself 'man i need to write down everything i got so i can appreciate every item individually'. And therefore it comes on the newshit list.
And that sounds pretty awesome Dan. I hope when you're designing the site for the next Slipknot you still remember this little Zetzio site :P.

Back to avatar you are right the cgi is the best I have every seen, to say it was good is an understatment. I am looking forward to seeing this new CGI in other movies as I think it will be able to do some great things. I just thought avatar as a actually movie was just ok maybe I just excepted to much after hearing about it for 7 years.
Today I got myself a new hat and gloves because of I am sick of getting cold and snowed on.
Oh and happy christmas.Posted 2 years ago # | -

Went shopping in town today which was a bad idea with people flooding in for boxing day sales.
I went got myself some t-shirts and a new hoody in the sales.
I also went to a GW stockist which where having a sale everything 10-45% off.
Picked up:
SM Battleforce
SM attack Bike

saved £45 buying it from them instead of GW.Posted 2 years ago # | -

I put an order in for the Dark Heresy Core Rule book on Amazon, I hear it's an incredible book for fluff and backstory, and I do hope to start playing it. My local club does play it I think so hopefully I'll get a chance to soon.

Been browsing the forums recently and have seen that you guys all have similar interests as myself, so thought I'd sign up. Used to post on the forums as Nikolai Dingle when you guys were still Edge UK.
Thought I'd start off by listing the presents I received for Christmas:
Left 4 Dead 2 (Absolutely awesome)
Street Fighter 4 (Really difficult but still an excellent game)
IT Crowd
Scrubs Season 3
Full Metal Panic Box Set (Going to start watching this tonight, hope it's awesome)
USB Humping Dog (Really humps the shit out of my laptop)Posted 2 years ago # | -
Ive been meaning to finish watching my Full Metal Panic boxed set. Tell me what you think when you finish them.
Posted 2 years ago # | -
Full Metal Panic is great, is it the first season box set, Nicky? Also, did you get Street Fighter IV for 360, since me and Jamie play it frequently so let me know if you want me to show you the ropes.
Posted 2 years ago # | -
To be perfectly honest, I'm not really sure! I think it's the complete set...how many seasons are there? Yeah Street Fighter 4 for the 360, I'll have to hop on and have a few games with you two at some point!
Posted 2 years ago # | -
I doubt it's the complete series since The Second Raid (S3) wasn't licensed in Europe last time I checked. At best you'll have S1 and S2 unless you got an R1 import boxset? S1 is a good mixture of action/comedy, S2 has a huge focus on comedy, and S3 is all about action. I thought it was a great series, hope you like it as well.
I don't know how deep you are into the fighting game scene, but SF4 takes a lot of practice to be decent on it. It's designed to be the most accessible game in the series but it's still very technical and requires a lot of precision. You have to practice to get something back from the game, but if you do it can be very addictive. You don't strike me as the type who has the competitive drive for fighting games, so I think you'll lose interest in the game within a month, but hopefully I'm wrong.
Posted 2 years ago # | -
Yeah you're probably right, I'm more of an FPS gamer generally (unless it's a Dead or Alive game). I've been online a few times, getting completely owned does get boring after a while!
Posted 2 years ago # | -
I don't know if you have me on MSN, but if so then drop me a message when you see me on and I'll direct you to some great resource sites for SF4. I'll also teach you the basics on Xbox Live if I see you on SF4. I used to only play FPS competitively, but I got into fighting games about a year ago and though I still love FPS the most, the competitive fighting game scene is far more fascinating to follow!
Posted 2 years ago # | -
Yeah that sounds awesome, not on MSN that much anymore though so it's probably best to add my new gamertag 'BlubberOne'. I bought a copy of Tekken 6 last night as well, was £15 in Sainsburys so I'll probably have a bash at that this evening!
Posted 2 years ago # | -
If you're not on MSN much then expect a PM from me on these forums at some point today.
Posted 2 years ago # | -

Gaunt's Ghosts Blood Pact - Dan Abnett
God is not Great - Christopher Hitchens
