Sony has announced the replacement for their PSP. It's currently codenamed NGP (Next Generation Portable), and is laden with impressive tech.

Sony claim it has power on a par with the PS3, and judging from the fact that Uncharted and MGS4 were running on the system, that appears to be at least mostly true.

Control wise it finally has the second analogue stick that was such a hot topic regarding the PSP. It also has both a OLED Touch screen, and a capacitive touch pad on the rear casing, so controls shouldn't be an issue this time round.

The NGP will also have 3G connectivity, as well as Wi-Fi.

Game wise the list is looking like this at the moment:
    Uncharted
    Killzone
    WipeOut
    Resistance
    Monster Hunter
    LittleBigPlanet
    Hustle Kings
    Hot Shots Golf

It will also support digital copies of PSP games.

Yeah, read about this on Ars Technica. My favourite line from the article was this little gem:

"Hideo Kojima claimed you can "enjoy the same quality as PlayStation 3" on the handheld."

The fact this is coming from a guy who develops video game cutscenes all day just makes me sceptical about it. As for the dual sticks, I am still not impressed because adding dual sticks is one thing, adding dual sticks that feel right and can be used to play an FPS effectively is entirely something else. If it's just two sticks that feel just like the one in the current PSP, I'm not excited at all because that thing will be terrible to aim with on an FPS etc.

With all that said and done, I look forward to buying yet more new hardware, and those dual sticks will at least be decent for controlling the camera in third person action games. The most interesting aspect seems to be the fact that not only is the front screen a touch screen, but there's a touch panel behind the PSP the exact same size as the front facing one.
