Has anyone checked out the Section 8 demo that came out roughly a week ago? I was keeping an eye on this game so the demo was worth checking out for me, can't say it left a positive impression though. I'll write a few of my thoughts down on the demo, though all my matches were quite laggy.
The first thing I should point out is that Section 8 has a health system a bit like Halo. You have a shield and then some health. The multiplayer is class-based, I think there were four classes which could have various loadouts (Assault, Heavy, Recon and Engineer).
The game's sprint effect really give you a sense of speed, but the fact you have to charge it up can be very annoying in combat. Controlling areas gives you access to AA guns which means your opponent's can't respawn in that zone (because you spawn from the sky, the AA guns would rape you if you're in range).
I enjoyed playing as an Engineer because I could destroy enemy AA guns and radars quickly with my rocket launcher, and also repair my team mates and friendly structures. However, it was fucking irritating as hell trying to heal someone who wouldn't stand still.
The game's multiplayer wasn't awful, but the demo made it feel very average. It's not the next COD or Halo, but it's not something fail. These days, if your game isn't up to a very high standard of quality, it falls into obscurity after a few weeks of the launch. If it's not something amazing, we just go back to CoD or Halo until something better gets released, so it's a bit sad but understandable.
Does anyone else have some impressions to share?
