Slowly reading through 5 months worth of RSS feeds. I bumped into this post on Librarium Online, not sure if anyone else has read anything about this but what do you think?

What’s happening to the Dark Eldar

I want to give a update to all Dark Eldar players out there. Currently there are 4 rumors about the Dark Eldar that I have seen and I’m sure there is many more out there. I will just post the most common for you the reader to see.

1) GW will be dropping the Dark Eldar altogether.

2) Codex Dark Eldar will be released at a later then expected date.

3) Codex Dark Eldar will be combined with Codex Eldar. The new Codex Eldar will also include Harlequin.

4) The Dark Eldar will become nothing more then a Chapter approved. Much like Codex Kroot Mercenaries and the current Codex Harlequin Eldar

Now on too the Facts. GW decided it would be better to do the Tyranids, Blood Angels, Necrons, and City Fight II codexes needed to be done first and for most. Also a new Codex Black Templars maybe in the middle of all of this, but right Codex Black Templars are just rumors.

Don’t get mad and curse GW with your Voodoo doll. GW will be releasing Codex Dark Eldar and a whole new line of minis real soon. Your reading it correctly. A 100% whole new line of models. GW is currently looking at early December release. Just in time for Santa Troll to drop some nice brand new Dark Eldar under your tree.

Every year I see a rumour saying that Dark Eldar are coming out next year. I wont believe we are getting a new Dark Eldar codex till I have it in my hands or its atleast up on advance orders..
I dont think GW are going to drop DE. If you have noticed there are alot of Dark eldar in BL books and they also include missions and stratgrams in planetstrike,apoc,apoc reloaded and the new battle mission book. The only race I see them dropping is the Witch Hunters and DaemonHunters. They have not had any missions in the new books, no fluff in the new codex and seem to being slowly phased out of 40k.

Right now it looks like DE next year or late this year. Once BA are out, the rumours point to DH or WH but I doubt that. I think it will either be Tau,Necrons or Eldar(very much doubt it), or if we are very unlucky Black Templars.
THere are no rumours for city fightII and the necron codex is only rumoured to be in the fluff stage as in no rules or models yet. Dark Eldar are rumoured to be done in the model range, so it all depends when GW want to release them. I reckon they should do it sooner rather than later as right now we have just had 2 marine releases that would help they make there money back if DE tank.

The massive problem with DE is that not enough people buy or play them and they dont buy or play them as the models and rules suck. GW will look at the sales and say it does not make sense to make new DE as it costs them alot to make new molds and according to there sale's numbers nobody plays them. Its a vicious circle.

The rumors I've seen point to a September-December release date, I hope it's true. I'd start a DE army now as while old as shit and they only have one build worth taking, they are still mighty powerful. Problem being I really hate almost their entire current range. I like the Raiders/Ravagers and the Reavers, but they are fragile as hell and have very little detail.

I have seen a few Dark Eldar conversions using Eldar and Dark Elf pieces but none have really stood out for me.
At Christmas I was bored of painting Space marines and orks and thought about repainting some of my Dark Eldar but they are so annoying to put together and just have no detail. I still like the old metal lord and think I will repaint him this easter holidays and see if I can make him look ok same with the inclubi.

They do have there lance spam list and it is pretty good against heavy mech armies or MEQ. But against a horde list DE dont stand a chance, even wyches will stuggle. Yes they will wipe out a boyz unit but then they will be left naked with no cover and will die next turn.

I think that they could still prevail against hordes, even Orks. I know when we played I made a lot of mistakes, you have to get into a diffrent mindset than I'm used to with the Tau. I shouldn't have spread out my fire, I should have just oblitorated one unit at a time, the list has the fire-power to do so,

I've said it many times; Dark Eldar look like shit in my opinion, but their playstyle is fucking perfect to me. The Tau are fun, but I went for them because they look the coolest to me. Playstyle-wise however, it's the DE that fit me like a glove. Considering I like 40K for the game, not the painting, I should've gone with DE, but lack of support by GW and the ugly ass units really put me off at the time.

Rumors are that the Dark Eldar are up next now, after 8th edition for Fantasy. BoLS has a summary here. Knowing that we do that the minis have been being worked on for at least a year or two now I think it seems fairly likley that this rumor is true.

They could be next, we know there is another Power armoured release coming up. So far this year we have had 2 new codex plus battle missions, they could be room for two more codex. GW never release codexs that much in the summer which will be dominated by WFB 8th edition ( which I am going to use to get into WFB). They never release them in decemeber either so we may see Sept- DE then Nov-Another SM.
I think DE will be more likely early next year.
I have a game on tuesday at a new club in the center of london I am testing out. 1750 game my EC against Dark Eldar.

Was talking to some GW staff at Wood Green recently and the guy was not convinced that a new DE codex would be coming any time in the foreseeable future. He said there have been DE rumours forever, so unless he sees the Codex in front of him, he doesn't bother with the rumours any more.

Alot of people have that attitude. Nearly every year we get the same rumours "This Year Dark Eldar !!!" and so far its always been wrong. THe thing is that the models seem to be done but GW dont want to make the molds unless its going to sell.
There missions in the Battlemission have made me think that GW wont be scrapping them.

I'm gonna definitly do all the Tyranids i got first; but before i get back into the hobby fully i'm gonna have to find out which armys are getting updates soon. Maybe Necrons will be around the corner and i already have a few of them. But if not i might go for some Nurgle. Just because i could imagine a really simply paint scheme.

Oh yeah, funny story about the Wood Green branch of Games Workshop. I asked them if they still had game nights on Thursdays and the new manager was like "Oh, yeah, we don't do that anymore." He said it turns out that was technically 'illegal' because the old manager used to bribe Wood Green shopping centre security into letting them stay open until 10PM and letting Warhammer players through the security gates. So yeah, they've stopped doing that now, and fired the old manager. Haha, that guy was so safe though.

Well just heard some more news on the DE front. According to Harry and Red ( two well known rumour sources) the Dark Eldar codex has finished playtesters and has moved to the printers. This puts it as coming out late 2010 or early 2011.
The guess are at late 2010 meaning they can be showcased at Gamesday then release a month later.

Another rumour came out a few days ago. According to a few sources they have seen a CAD image of the New Dark Eldar ravager. The weapons are meant to look a lot like the Eldar weapons and it has a few spikes plus a Sail type thing like the Eldar wraithships from BFG.

I would take this will a large dose of salt as the rumour did not come from a well know rumour source but it does fit in with the other rumours.

Well the picture in the BRB for the DE section does appear to have a skimmer with a sail like structure, and the weapon mounted on the front resembles Eldar infnatry support weapons.

So it does, this makes me think this rumour has a bit more ground then. Going to be intresting to see which the next codex is, It is looking like maybe DE or Inq. I dont mind which one it is, I wont collect either but looking forwarded to seeing the new DE models and I am sure the GW staff can do something cool with the INQ.
