First of all, let me just say happy holidays everyone. I bumped into something pretty awesome last week and wanted to save it for Christmas, and here we are. A fellow by the name of Doctor Octoroc has created a compilation of sweet Christmas themed chip tunes. The album is titled 8-Bit Jesus and is completely free to download. I mean come on; you can’t pass up a free album with track names like ‘Ryu, the Red Nosed Ninja’ and ‘Super Jingle Bros.’ The album is available in RAR and ZIP formats, so give them a listen and geek out the old school way this Christmas.
Even though I don’t celebrate Christmas, to me the actual tunes are worth listening to either way. I don’t even know which Christmas song some of these tracks are based on, but they sound good and that’s the bottom line for me. I’m having a tough time picking out favourites from these tracks, but I think it would ultimately be between ‘Carol of the Belmonts’ or ‘Ryu the Red Nosed Ninja’. Also, can anyone guess which games the tracks are based on? The two I just mentioned are from Castlevania and Ninja Gaiden respectively if I’m not mistaken, and Super Jingle Bros. is a pretty obvious one so don’t even go there.
