Before reading this, you should watch the trailer above. Tenchu: Shadow Assassins is being developed by Acquire for the Wii, and to be honest I haven’t decided yet if I want to laugh or cry. Tenchu is a tricky IP for me. The first game was so good, but the sequels didn’t really bring anything significantly new, it wasn’t evolving enough for my liking. The gameplay in that trailer looks like the type of thing we’ve come to expect from the franchise, but as someone who has played many of the games in this franchise; this is a new low for the series’ localisation in my eyes.
I think we should stick to the age old method of making them speak English with Japanese accents like Hiro from Heroes. I’ve noticed this topic bought up before actually, regarding the recent Prince of Persia who is more American than Persian. Yes, it’s a fantasy world but it’s bothersome. Tenchu needs to evolve into a hybrid between Metal Gear Solid and Ninja Gaiden, and yes I know it’s easy to say shit like this when I’m sitting behind my computer, but I think if Acquire really wanted to, they could make this franchise into something to be proud of once again.
