Video game stat-whoring heaven, VGChartz recently released their latest software data which shows that Wii Sports is now the best selling video game of all time, surpassing games like Super Mario Bros. With a whopping 40.24 million units sold. Obviously this is primarily because of the fact that it comes with every Wii system purchased outside of Japan and South Korea, but that doesn’t change the numbers. So, next time you’re at the local Games Workshop or wherever the hell we geeks hang out to socialise, you can use this fact to flaunt your massive video game knowledge. Read on to see the top ten most sold games of all time, and part of the reason why they sold so damn well.
Below is a chart from VGChartz showing the top ten most sold games of all time. VGChartz points out how all the games listed were made by Nintendo and have been bundled with their respective system in at least one region. Personally I’m not that impressed by this feat, simply because you could bundle anything with a Wii and people are still going to buy it. I could bundle Wii Wank and as long as I can market it properly, people won’t really give a shit.

Although the reliability of VGChartz can be argued, I can’t ignore their estimations which are usually accurate. The key word here is estimation, and whether they take wild guesses or educated ones, the end result is mostly positive.
I’m confused as to why Wii Sports sales have almost doubled the amount of Wii console sales, but fair enough.
