There are many websites and blogs looking back at 2008 and making observations, and it’s not surprising to see Larry Hryb among such sites. Larry was nice enough to compile a nice little list showing the top 20 LIVE games of 2008 based on unique users. Most of the results are from the usual suspects, but to be honest I wasn’t expecting to see titles like Forza Motorsport 2 on there. First of all, let me just say happy holidays everyone. I bumped into something pretty awesome last week and wanted to save it for Christmas, and here we are. A fellow by the name of Doctor Octoroc has created a compilation of sweet Christmas themed chip tunes. The album is titled 8-Bit Jesus and is completely free to download. I mean come on; you can’t pass up a free album with track names like ‘Ryu, the Red Nosed Ninja’ and ‘Super Jingle Bros.’ The album is available in RAR and ZIP formats, so give them a listen and geek out the old school way this Christmas.

Quite a few of the readers are Narutards so I figure this is pretty relevant shit. If you’re not into Japanese cartoons or Japanese cartoon pornography, then firstly shame on you and secondly you may ignore this post. So as the title says; Dattebayo will stop fansubbing Naruto “permanently” from January 15. For those of you who live under a rock but still watch Naruto somehow, Dattebayo is the primary source of Naruto fansubs and from what I hear they’re also attention seeking twits, but rumours aren’t always true. Part of the reason why I haven’t updated a lot recently is due to Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3. I picked this up for the PC last week and have been hooked ever since. Red Alert 2 has a lot of special memories for me and I was very relieved to see that EA hadn’t butchered the game or the great soundtrack for that matter. Now you too can give it a spin via the marketplace as the demo features one campaign mission for the Soviets and Allies along with an interactive tutorial. It’s a shame they didn’t let you play online multiplayer as they had with the Tiberium Wars demo, but hey it’s better than nothing.

The first Gears of War 2 patch was recently released which supposedly fixes the waiting times for matchmaking sessions. That alone would have been a good enough fix, but EPIC have also said the patch will improve how stats are collected for Gears of War dot com, plus resolve an issue where players couldn’t access campaign when Xbox Live was down.

I haven’t had a chance to check the patch out myself yet, so if you’ll be on it today drop a comment with how much of a difference this new patch makes to matchmaking times. Considering that there was a time where I waited 30 minutes for a Wingman match and it couldn’t find enough players, I’m not going to smile until I see the improvements with my own eyes.

Just a quick heads up that Bungie have decided to rename their upcoming expansion game to Halo 3: ODST. This makes sense I suppose since you do play as an ODST but am I the only one who thought Recon just sounded cooler to say? I imagine Bungie have some tricks up their sleeve to get people interested in this expansion as it draws closer to release, which is pretty much why I’m following the title even though I only occasionally play Halo 3 nowadays.

Epic has shared some very intriguing statistics with the community and I believe they’re interesting enough to post up for you guys. One piece of info that caught my eye is the fact that the Shotgun is the most lethal weapon in the game with the most kills. Considering how every fucking noob is crying their ass off over how weak it is, you’d think it wouldn’t be so frequently used. Apparently the Lancer is too strong, so why isn’t everyone whoring that instead of sticking with the shotgun they believe is so weak? I detect large amounts of bullshit. It’s the 19th of November people, that means the NXE update will be in your face at some point today. According to my time zone calculations, you should be prompted to install the update at around 10AM GMT, but don’t quote me on that.
